TEMPEST

Tempest 2024, oil on canvas, 246 X 152 cm
What might the awakening of consciousness have been like? That instant in which those first human beings said to themselves, ‘I am.’ What did they feel as they tried to rationalize what had not yet been named—what we now call ‘Time’ and ‘Energy’?
From the opening of a cave, a storm of events can be observed. Simultaneous views of the same flow from different perspectives and scales. Supercritical consciousness in its fullest display, capable of observing everything at once from many angles. Each vortex is a cross‑section of the central figure: a flow of energy in all its possibilities and arrangements.
This painting seeks to explore, among other things, the relationship between the ethereal and the tangible. The framing rock is the human boundary of what is perceptible; the clouds, the boundary of what is imaginable. The small landscape that can be distinguished inhabits the contemporary present, at the threshold between memory and dream.
